# Organize your job families

> Rename, add, or reassign the job families that group your organization's jobs

<Note>
  Access: Hub plan, with a connected ATS. The settings are reserved for administrators and billing admins.
</Note>

Job families group your jobs into broad categories, such as occupations, practices, or specialties. They're the level that segments your dashboards. Hirify suggests them and you correct them.

## How the taxonomy is built

Hirify looks at the jobs synced from your ATS and derives a list of families from them. Two conditions apply:

* At least twenty jobs must be synced for the taxonomy to be generated.
* Each job is then assigned to a family, or left aside until the next pass.

Before that threshold, the page says: "The taxonomy is generated automatically once enough jobs have been synced (at least 20)." Without a connected ATS, it shows "Connect your ATS to enable job families."

## Read the page

Open **Settings**, then **Job families**. Every member can view the page. Only an administrator or a billing admin can change it.

The **Families** section lists each family, its description when it has one, and its number of **Jobs**. Below the table, a summary line gives the totals: how many jobs overall, how many in **Autre**, and how many unclassified.

**Autre** (other) is the fallback family. It groups the jobs that don't fit any named category. A growing **Autre** count is the sign that a family is missing.

## Add a family

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Add">
    The button is at the top of the **Families** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the family">
    The **Family name** field takes up to 80 characters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe it, if useful">
    The **Description (optional)** field "helps automatic classification understand the family". It takes up to 300 characters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The jobs currently classified in **Autre** are reconsidered for the new family.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A taxonomy holds sixteen families at most. Beyond that, Hirify refuses the addition and tells you so.

## Rename or merge

The pencil at the end of the row opens **Rename**. The family's jobs follow the new name.

<Tip>
  Entering the name of a family that already exists merges the two. It's the way to fix a taxonomy that's split too finely without going job by job.
</Tip>

## Delete a family

The trash icon opens a confirmation that tells you what will happen: the family's jobs "go back to automatic classification". They aren't lost. They can be assigned to another family again.

A taxonomy must keep at least two families. The last two can't be deleted.

## Fix a job

When a job is filed in the wrong family, the **Fix a job** section puts it back in place.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Search for the job">
    The **Search jobs by title…** field filters as you type.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the family picker">
    It offers **Automatic (to be classified)**, each family in your taxonomy, and **Autre**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the right family">
    The job is reassigned right away and gets a **manual** badge.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A manual correction sticks. Automatic classification won't change it again. To hand a job back to Hirify, choose **Automatic (to be classified)** again.

## Good to know

* The page stays empty without a connected ATS. Families apply to the jobs that come from it.
* Changing the taxonomy changes nothing in your ATS. It lives in Hirify and serves your dashboards.
* Adding or deleting a family triggers a reclassification of the jobs involved, which isn't instant. The counters settle after the pass.
* Unclassified jobs aren't errors. They're waiting for the next classification pass.
* Two families minimum, sixteen maximum. A name that's already taken is refused. Use renaming to merge.
* A manual correction doesn't carry over to other jobs with a similar title. It only applies to the job you corrected.
