# Read, edit, and regenerate interview notes

> Review the interview notes, correct them by hand, adjust their format, length, or language, and regenerate them when needed

The interview notes are yours. You edit them like a document, rewrite them section by section, and regenerate them when the transcript has changed. Every action on this page is in the **Actions** panel, on the right edge of the interview page.

## Open the interview notes

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the interview">
    From **Interviews**, click the interview you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to the Notes tab">
    The interview page has three tabs: **Notes**, **Key takeaways**, and **Transcript**. The interview notes are under **Notes**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Actions panel">
    Click **Actions** in the vertical bar on the right. Document actions only appear on the **Notes** tab, and only once the interview notes are complete.
  </Step>
</Steps>

When an interview has several notes, a counter shows on the **Notes** tab, and the **Notes** section of the panel lets you switch between them.

## Edit the text by hand

The interview notes are directly editable: click in the text and make your correction. Saving is automatic. The indicator at the top right of the document goes from **Saving…** to **Saved**. You edit the title the same way, by clicking it.

## Format

In the **Actions** panel, the **Rewrite the whole document** section acts on the entire interview notes.

Open **Format**, then choose **Bullet list** or **Paragraphs**.

To act on one part only, hover over the text and a handle appears in the left margin. Its menu applies to that field or section alone:

* **Copy**
* **Bulleted list** or **Paragraph**
* **Shorter** or **Longer**
* **Delete field** or **Delete section**

Translation only works on the whole document.

<Warning>
  A rewrite replaces the existing text. There's no version history. The **Undo** button in the confirmation message takes you back, once.
</Warning>

## Change the length

Still under **Rewrite the whole document**, open **Length** and choose **Shorter** or **Longer**. The same two options are in the margin handle, for a single field or section.

Only one rewrite runs at a time. While it runs, the document is locked and the other entries are grayed out.

## Translate

Open **Translate** in the **Actions** panel. It has two uses that are easy to mix up:

* **Copy in English**: an English translation goes to your clipboard. The note itself doesn't change.
* **Replace with a translation**: choosing a language rewrites the interview notes in that language, in place of the current text.

Seven languages are offered: French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch.

## Regenerate the interview notes

Regenerating starts again from the template outline and the transcript as it is now, then rewrites the interview notes. For automatically generated notes, the outline is the structure they produce themselves.

It's the right move after correcting the transcript, renaming a speaker, or adding the candidate's CV.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Find the Interview notes section">
    In the **Actions** panel, find the **Interview notes** section.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Regenerate">
    Click **Regenerate**. A message confirms that generation has restarted, and the interview notes update on the page.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If a generation is already running on these notes, Hirify tells you instead of starting a second one.

## What regeneration replaces

<Warning>
  Regeneration rewrites the interview notes entirely. **Your manual corrections are lost.** Copy anything you want to keep before you start.
</Warning>

What isn't touched: the transcript, the candidate analysis, **Key takeaways**, and the other notes of the same interview. Each note regenerates independently.

Interview notes saved from the Assistant can't be regenerated. They have no template to rewrite from.

## Good to know

* When information the template asks for wasn't discussed, the notes say it wasn't covered in the interview. Don't replace that with a guess. The statement is the result, not a gap.
* Rewrites start from the text in front of you, corrections included. Only regeneration starts again from the transcript.
* Very long interview notes can exceed the length your ATS fields accept. When the result of a rewrite goes over that limit, formatting and translation included, Hirify warns you that pasting may be truncated.
* Editing the interview notes here changes nothing in your ATS. Sending them is still a separate, deliberate action.
* If the analysis failed, the interview notes may be missing. The **Analysis** panel offers **Run the analysis again** when the interview can still be used. Otherwise, it only invites you to contact support.
