For a face-to-face interview, Hirify generates a QR code. You scan it with a phone and record from the page that opens. There’s nothing to install.

Generate the QR code

1

Open the Dashboard

In the Start an interview row, click In person.
2

Name the interview

Fill in the Interview title. The field suggests an example: “e.g. Interview with Alice Martin”.
3

Set the number of participants

The Participants menu goes from 1 person to 5 people. It helps Hirify separate the voices.
4

Click Generate

The window shows “Your QR code is ready”.

Open the recording page on the phone

Scan the QR code with the phone’s camera. The recording page opens in the browser. Two other options appear under the QR code:
  • Open: opens the page directly in a new tab, on the computer.
  • Copy link: copies the address to the clipboard so you can send it to another device.
The New button takes you back to the form to generate another QR code. Done closes the window.

Record

On the phone, the page shows the interview title and your name.
1

Choose the microphone

The Microphone menu lists the available audio inputs. The browser asks for permission to use the microphone. Allow it.
2

Start recording

Tap Start recording. A waveform and a timer appear.
3

Pause if needed

Pause stops the capture and Resume starts it again. The “Saved automatically” label means the recording is kept on the device as the interview goes on.
4

Stop at the end

Stop ends the capture and starts the upload. A progress bar shows how far along it is, then the page confirms “Recording sent” and “Transcribing”.
Keep the page open and the screen unlocked for the whole recording and during the upload. On an iPhone, the page suggests turning off auto-lock in Settings → Display → Auto-Lock → Never.

Resume an interrupted recording

The recording page keeps what it captured. Two situations are handled when you reopen it.
A recording was cut off before the end. The page offers Recover to pick it up again or Start new to start over.
The recording is complete but the upload didn’t go through. The page offers Retry upload, Download to get the audio file, or Delete.
After a successful upload, the Download recording button stays available on the page.

Find the interview in Hirify

The interview is created as soon as the QR code is generated. Until a recording is sent, it sits with no status at the bottom of the Interviews list. It joins the normal flow once the upload is done. In the filters, it falls under the Recording type.

Find and track

The statuses and filters of the list.

Identify speakers

Name the voices after transcription.

Good to know

  • A recording shorter than one minute isn’t transcribed. The page says so on the phone, and the interview shows Too short in the list.
  • The number of participants helps separate the voices. It isn’t a limit. The menu stops at five people, but one more speaker doesn’t block the recording.
  • The quality of the phone’s microphone determines the quality of the transcript. Place the device between the speakers, at an equal distance from each.
  • An in-person interview isn’t linked to any calendar event. It doesn’t appear in the Calendar.
  • If a single interview was split into two recordings, you can combine them. See Merge two interviews.
  • Industry terms and your organization’s proper names are transcribed better if you’ve added them. See Improve transcripts.
